Recently I was reviewing these papers I had written in preparation to teach a class on Jewish law and I thought I would share some of my research. The first is a paper on a social justice topic: how to think about giving tzedakah based on traditional sources. It looks at the sociology of giving and the development of legal thought over time.
The second covers the history of Sicut Judeis, a major Papal order during the Middle Ages. The paper also tracks the rise of anti-Jewish feelings from its roots in the Roman Empire.
